Oklahoma has a number of legislative characteristics that make it stand out in America, especially when it comes to CBD. In fact, it passed a Governor’s bill back in 2015 that said anyone who suffered from epilepsy could have access to this natural remedy. This was then updated in 2016 which extended the use of CBD oil to many more patients and a much longer list of health conditions.
As we stand in 2019, there are currently ten states who have legalized marijuana completely, both for medicinal and recreational purposes. Furthermore, there are twenty-one states where CBD is legal for medicinal use, with a prescription. However, while these states may have legalized CBD, this doesn’t mean that the legislation around its use is the same in every one.
This means that currently there is no law that states CBD oil is legal for patients who don’t qualify under the 2015 and 2016 Governor bills. However, it does appear to be one of the states that ‘tolerates’ the growth, possession, and use of CBD – but it can’t be psychoactive.
Oklahoma also has just recently brought through a medical marijuana program which allows patients to purchase CBD from licensed dispensaries, and what’s more, CBD that’s made from cannabis. CBD from cannabis is slightly more popular for some because it contains a higher level of THC than CBD that’s made from hemp.
We’re getting through 2019, and the Oklahoma medical marijuana program is a booming success. However, if you’re a resident of Oklahoma and you don’t qualify for CBD, and you’re wondering how to get your hands on some, there are a variety of options still available.
Later on, we’ll talk about this but before that let’s discuss what CBD oil is and how it can be beneficial to your health.
What Exactly is CBD Oil?
CBD is an active cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant that doesn’t get you high. This is one of the first and most important things to know about CBD – unlike THC, another cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, it can’t get you high because it doesn’t contain any psychoactive properties. Believe it or not, there are over eight cannabinoids that can be found in the cannabis plant.
When thinking about CBD from a medical point of view, there is some promising evidence that is both current and forthcoming. Hemp has higher concentrations of CBD than cannabis, which is why CBD made from hemp is a better option if you’re wanting the health kick without the high.
There are many people out there that point to CBD for helping them sleep better, as well as a whole host of other health benefits. There are also studies out there that point to CBD as an anti-inflammatory, an antipsychotic and an anti-pain treatment. However because clinical trials are still so limited around these conditions, there is a lot more that needs to be done for CBD to be approved by the FDA.
The most common way to take CBD is in oil form. As a result, the CBD oil industry has exploded over the last few years, and as a result, there are now many health benefits that can be linked to it. To say that there is a bit of hype around the CBD oil movement is definitely an under-exaggeration.
CBD helps your body by interacting directly with your endocannabinoid system. Your body’s endocannabinoid system is known for being able to regulate your mood, keep your appetite in order and even maintain a healthy immune system. CBD oil interacts directly with the receptors of your endocannabinoid system, which ultimately means it encourages your body to produce more of what it already does.
When you smoke or take THC, it attaches itself to similar receptors – however, these ones are found in your brain.
Can You Use CBD Oil to Help with Medical Issues?
Many residents in Oklahoma are now much more in the know about what CBD oil does, and it’s all thanks to legislation being gently loosened over the past few years. This means that both children and adults have been able to use it to treat a number of different issues, including anxiety, chronic pain, and even seizures.
CBD and Seizures
There is quite a high percentage of Americans who have epilepsy but don’t respond at all to the medications that they are prescribed for it. Additionally, a lot of the time this type of prescription medication can come with harmful side effects.
There are now many different studies out there that indicate CBD is an effective treatment for those suffering from epilepsy and seizures.
CBD and Pain Relief
It’s hard to believe, but different cannabis extracts have actually been used in traditional medicine to help alleviate pain for hundreds, if not thousands of years. However, as you may have guessed, it hasn’t been until recently that the medical community has picked up on this and considered it worth studying. Research indicates that CBD is an effective natural treatment for all different types of pain, from neck and back to even joint pain.
CBD and Anxiety
There is now a significant percentage of the population that suffers from an anxiety disorder. Luckily, this is one of the health conditions that’s considered treatable with CBD. Research indicates that CBD is effective at treating a number of different anxiety disorders, including depression, social anxiety, and even PTSD.
CBD and Nausea
There has been a bit of research lately that points to CBD for nausea and vomiting. These studies indicate that CBD is capable of reducing the sensation of nausea, particularly when it’s already developing.
CBD and Schizophrenia
As we mentioned, CBD oil is considered an effective treatment against a number of different health conditions, including mental health too. Studies indicate that CBD has helped significantly with patients who experience schizophrenia, and has even been able to help reduce symptoms associated with schizophrenia.
Companies that Deliver CBD Oil to Oklahoma
Luckily, there are a bunch of reputable companies that can deliver CBD oil to you in Oklahoma.
Based on the research indicated above, there is no denying that there are many patients out there who could be benefiting from the positive effects of CBD and that every resident of Oklahoma deserves to have access to a natural treatment like this. Considering how positive CBD has proven to be through these studies, it’s difficult for us to understand why it’s still being withheld on a state level.
What’s also important to mention at this point, though, is that CBD does have a few side effects. For this reason, it’s highly recommended that you consult with your healthcare professional before deciding to try it for yourself. However, compared to the side effects that come with most prescription drugs, these side effects are minimal.
It’s also worth noting that CBD is available in many different forms and concentrations. For this reason, it’s important to remember that while one CBD product may help someone with their condition, it may not be appropriate for yours.
While Oklahoman lawmakers continue to figure out the confusing medical marijuana legislation that’s currently in place, it’s encouraging to know that CBD oil is available in Oklahoma to those who really need it.
