When a woman becomes pregnant, everything that she puts into her body is going to affect the unborn baby. While there are a number of beneficial minerals and vitamins that a pregnant woman can take, there are also those that could have adverse effects, as well. These include and aren’t limited to illicit drugs, some prescriptions, and different types of foods.
CBD is a compound of cannabis. It is one of many cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant and is used the world over by people as a natural remedy. Currently, there is not enough research to definitively determine whether the effects of CBD on the body are ultimately positive or negative. CBD is an excellent option for many people because, unlike THC, it isn’t psychoactive.
If you aren’t sure whether you can take CBD while you’re pregnant or not, try consulting with your healthcare professional. While there are limited studies to verify, either way, they will be able to help you come to a decision on whether you should use it while your pregnant or not. Many women have claimed that using CBD oil while they’re pregnant has helped with issues like nausea and vomiting.
Ultimately, using CBD oil while you’re pregnant is considered safer than if you were to take products with THC in them, or even smoking marijuana itself.
How CBD Affects the Fetus
We’ve already mentioned that there is a very limited amount of data to determine the impact of CBD on an unborn fetus. However, what we do know that even in the earlier weeks of pregnancy, a fetus has a cannabinoid system, just like we do.
Again, not enough is known to decide whether the way that CBD affects a fetus this young is positive or negative.
What About CBD Oil and Breastfeeding?
Again, like with the other points that we’ve discussed today, the short answer to this question is that there’s not enough research to determine whether taking CBD while you’re breastfeeding is positive or negative. There are virtually no studies that have been done around mothers who are breastfeeding and taking CBD at the same time – with scenarios like this, ethics come into question.
However, there is some data to consider that is relatively related to this topic. When mothers take THC or smoke marijuana while breastfeeding, traces of it does show up in the baby. If for some reason your pediatrician took a sample of your baby’s urine and it tested positive for THC, then they would most likely report this to the authorities.
For these reasons, it is always recommended that you consult a healthcare professional before taking any type of medication or natural alternative while you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. Your doctor will be able to give you expert advice, and together you’ll be able to weigh up the risks and benefits of a natural alternative like CBD oil.
